Introduction
This Paradigm Shifter is called Busting through Roadblocks to Your Dreams.
This Powerful technique comes from the book "Wishcraft, how to get what you really want." by Barbara Sher. Which is one of those few rare books that I think everyone should read.
What we have is a dream, a goal, something that we're trying to achieve, somewhere we're trying to go.
And we'd love to get to that dream, that goal... but there's a problem.
There's lots of a problems.
Problems
This is what Barbara Sher has to say about problems:
"all true winners are people who have taken conventional “wisdom” as a sporting challenge, instead of a pronouncement of defeat. They assume that its rules were made to be broken, so they don’t even stop to ask “Can it be done?” They just ask, “How?” Answers to that question start turning up as soon as you suspend all rules of conventional "wisdom" and look at each problem with pure, playful creativity, as if it had never been seen on earth before."
Reframing Your Problem
So let's take a look at one of those problems as if it's never been seen before... think of one now, a problem that's holding you back from your goal.
Think about your problem, take a moment to understand, to put it in to words. Barbara asks you to state your problem like this:
"I can't achieve my dream, because I don't have X". So take a moment to think about how to phrase your problem like that. For instance, I can't start a business, because I don't have enough money
Now, let's rephrase that problem, let's turn that statement into two questions:
The first Question: "How can achieve my dream without X?", such as "How can I start a business without lots of money".
The second Question: "How can I get x", such as "How can I get lots of money"
Either of these questions can serve as a launching point, but Barbara recommends the first one, how can I achieve my dream without X, because it allows you to take the quickest route to your dream.
Taking Action
What I want you to do is scroll to the bottom of this page, and write that problem at the top.
Then, you're going to go ahead and write every single possible solution that pops into your head.
And when I say every solution, I mean every solution, not just the ones that make sense, or seem easy, or seem "realistic"... but everything.
Then, press submit.
You should end up with a pretty respectable list of ways to Bust through roadblocks, a jog to your memory to get you unstuck.
What do you do from there? Well, you'll have to read Wishcraft to find out. This is just one of the paradigm shifting exercises and techniques that it contains. There's a link on this page if you want to check it out.
But the important thing is, you've changed the way you thought about this problem, you've shifted from having a problem to choosing from solutions... you've made a paradigm shift.
Until Next Folks.
